Youth at COP29

At its recent Executive Council (EC) meeting, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) received approval to develop a Youth Action Plan. This decision is a key step forward in WMO’s mission to align with the UN Youth Strategy and foster youth leadership in climate action. In the lead-up to COP29, WMO is actively consulting with internal and external stakeholders to shape this plan, which will be finalized by next year. The Youth Action Plan will serve as a framework for empowering young people and ensuring their meaningful participation in global climate resilience efforts.

As part of this commitment, WMO is eager to connect with youth leaders and organizations that are at the forefront of climate action. Our goal at COP29 is to build robust partnerships and amplify the voices of young people advocating for impactful, science-based solutions to climate challenges.

Throughout COP29, WMO will host a series of events in our pavilion, offering a platform for youth to engage directly with global leaders, scientists, and policy-makers. We will also participate in side events that promote intergenerational dialogues, explore intersectional issues, and address the power dynamics that often shape climate discourse. Through these activities, we aim to create a space where young people can share their experiences, highlight innovative approaches, and drive collaborative action toward a more sustainable future.
