Ndivile Mokoena

A Project Coordinator for GenderCC SA - Woman for Climate Justice, an NGO based in Johannesburg focusing on Climate & Gender Justice issues including policy advocacy for gender integration and its intersecting issues, building capacity at the local community level, and raising awareness on climate change across the board. Ndivile has vast experience with climate change, gender, and social issues since 2010 when she joined Earthlife Africa, Jhb’s women’s forum called – Women in Energy and Climate Change forum. Working with women cooperatives on energy, agriculture and other social issues that affect the communities exacerbated by climate change impacts.  Engaging with national and local governments on the integration of gender and social issues into climate change adaptation & mitigation policies and the just transition framework. Currently working with various communities (women and youth) on a community-led and gender Just Transition. International Experience. Ndivile has been the Women & Gender Constituency (WGC) global south focal point, WGC is one of nine approved constituencies in United Nations Framework on Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC) from 2018 – 2020. She started following the climate change processes with COP17 hosted by South Africa in eThekwini, representing Women in Energy and Climate Change Forum under the auspices of Earthlife Africa and GenderCC Southern Africa funded by Oxfam GB and accredited by GenderCC International at the UNFCCC.  From 2017 she started attending the UNFCCC inter-sessional meetings and COP conferences and has been an active member of the WGC. She is also representing South Africa’s community voices in an international project linked to the UNFCCC called “Not Without Us” funded by Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. The project is focused on bringing local voices, struggles and climate changes challenges local women are facing to the international platform with the emphasises that “no international decisions and negotiations without the voices of local women.
