Science and Innovation Department
The Science and Innovation Department (SI) leverages the global research community to advance the understanding of the Earth system, improve policy-relevant science, and enhance the science-for-services value cycle.
The SI Department is responsible for:
- Supporting the WMO Research Board and the WMO Scientific Advisory Panel
- Coordinating the United in Science Report, under the direction of the UN Secretary-General
- Supporting the implementation of three research programmes including the World Weather Research Programme, headed by Estelle De Coning; the World Climate Research Programme (co-sponsored by WMO, ISC and IOC), headed by Michael Sparrow, and the Global Atmosphere Watch Programme, headed by Paolo Laj.
