“2023 had the driest rivers in more than three decades”

The WMO's 2023 State of Global Water Resources report is a WMO flagship product that presents an overall picture of the available water resources globally during the previous year and allows for the assessment of status of water resources. The report highlights the impacts of changing climate on the water resources. WMO is delighted to share that the report has seen an exponential increase in engagement from the Members in the last year in terms of data sharing, thus making the report even more comprehensive.

The report offers practical utility and policy guidance for global decision-makers, aligning with the UN's vision for an early warning system and supporting Sustainable Development Goals related to water and climate. Complementing WMO’s Annual State of the Climate Report, the Water Report allows assessing the impact of activities targeted at integrated water and climate actions at the global level, and hence help Members and other organizations in better planning and management of their resources.
