Side Event: Impacts on Members of service delivery transformation in aeronautical meteorology
Face-to-face only, 04 March 2024, 12:30 - 14:00 WITA
This side-event will highlight drivers for change in aeronautical meteorology specifically and aviation more generally. It will invite Members to consider the impacts of change on their service delivery modalities and will offer advice or opinions on how Members can proactively respond to change.

Side Event: Early Warnings for All
Hybrid, 04 March 2024, 17:00 - 18:00 WITA
The Early Warnings for All initiative aims to protect everyone on earth from hazardous weather, water, or climate events through life-saving early warning systems by the end of 2027. Despite the urgent need, only half of the countries worldwide report having adequate multi-hazard early warning systems. To inform planning and better target assistance, WMO conducted a Rapid Assessment of the hazard monitoring and forecasting capacity of the 30 countries selected for initial support under the Early Warnings for All Initiative.
The side event will cover the concept, methodology, and outcomes of the Rapid Assessment undertaken to assess the hazard monitoring and forecasting capabilities of the 30 countries initially supported under the Early Warnings for All Initiative. Furthermore, the event will include insights from the WMO's Expert Team of Early Warning Systems regarding the implementation of Early Warnings for All, as well as perspectives from national stakeholders on the rapid assessment process and its integration into national strategies.

Side Event: Strengthening WMO Members' Capacity to Deliver Marine Services
Face-to-face only, 05 March 2024, 12:00 - 14:00 WITA
The Side Event will be an opportunity SERCOM Members to hear from various delegates who have been part of the initiatives supported and driven by the Standing Committee on Marine Meteorological and Oceanographic Services (SC-MMO) to enhance Member capacity in marine services that contribute to Early Warnings for All.

Side Event: WMO Flood Forecasting Initiative (FFI) for strengthening Early Warnings for All in WMO Member countries
Face-to-face only, 05 March 2024, 17:00 - 18:00 WITA
The overall goal of this side event is to inform SERCOM Members on how countries can engage and benefit from WMO-led initiatives or projects to improve services related to monitoring, forecasting and management of flood events. The side event will focus on key hydrological initiatives and projects supporting WMO Member countries in strengthening their End-to-End Flood Forecasting and Early Warning Systems, and will include the presentation of successful case studies contributing to Early Warning Systems for floods.

Side Event: Refocussed Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS)
Hybrid, 06 March 2024, 12:00 - 13:00 WITA
The WMO led the establishment of the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS), and a 10-year implementation plan was formally adopted by an Extraordinary Session of the World Meteorological Congress in 2012. The GFCS has now been refocussed as we move beyond the initial 10-year implementation plan.
This side event will describe the refocussed GFCS, highlighting how SERCOM supports the ongoing implementation of development, delivery and use of climate services worldwide. This is becoming increasingly important as the world faces growing risks arising from climate variability and climate change, cutting across all of the SERCOM Standing Committees (Agriculture, Aviation, Climate, Disaster Risk Reduction, Hydrology, Marine Meteorological and Oceanographic).

Side Event: WMO activities on strengthening Water Resources Assessment and Management
Face-to-face only, 06 March 2024, 17:00 - 18:00 WITA
The side event will highlight WMO initiatives and activities supporting water resources assessment and management in WMO Member countries, and how Members can benefit from the available WMO toolkits, models, and expertise. The side event will be an opportunity to identify current gaps and needs and share experiences on water resources assessment and management practices in WMO Member countries.
During the event, the freely available tool Dynamic Water Resources Assessment Tool (DWAT) will be presented as an example. This tool supports long-term water resources planning and policy development by assisting policy specialists and water resource managers in identifying and comparing current and future challenges with available water resources.
Side Event: International Data Rescue initiative (DARE)
Hybrid, 08 March 2024, 17:00 - 18:00 WITA
SERCOM members will be briefed on the new Data Rescue (DARE) portal and guidelines. SERCOM members will also be briefed on ongoing DARE projects and opportunities including in support of Early Warnings for All and Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS).
