Deep-dive on Satellite Observations for Hydrology
WMO is aiming to strengthen the use of hydrological satellite data to complement in-situ observations. While there is significant growth in satellite observations relevant to hydrological applications, there is limited in-situ data available for validation, despite the crucial role such observations play in the global modelling and forecast of hydrological extremes. The amount of satellite data and the nature of the products that are applicable to observational hydrology is not easily accessible or known to the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS). The purpose of the current webinar is to explore and learn from the potential of hydrological satellite observations, through case studies, illustrating the performance of available spatial data to contribute to quality hydrological monitoring, forecasts, and outlooks.
