Yuri Simonov, Deputy Director for Scientific Work, Hydrometeorological Center of Russia

Yuri Simonov is the Deputy Director for Scientific Work at the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia and the National Hydrological Adviser of the Russian Federation to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). As Chair of the WMO Standing Committee on Hydrological Services, his work focuses on advancing operational hydrology, flood forecasting, and early warning systems. 

In his talk, Dr. Yuri Simonov shares his journey from academic research to leading life-saving flood forecasting efforts. Drawing on his extensive expertise in hydrology and his leadership within the World Meteorological Organization, Simonov illustrates how cutting-edge science, international collaboration, and innovative technologies are transforming flood management to protect lives and build global resilience.
