Climate and environmental insights and services

WMO climate monitoring and services issued the initial alert concerning climate change. It has since continued call for action on climate change and to provide fundamental scientific information for climate change mitigation, adaptation and resilience. Today, the enhanced Earth system science and knowledge provided by WMO contributes to much more.
Climate and environmental services inform interventions that reduce disaster risks, thereby boosting investor confidence that their assets are protected and stimulating further investment. Better detection and forecasting of natural hazards and their associated potential risks, thus contribute to development gains by encouraging positive risk-taking - for example, larger investments in productive assets, entrepreneurship and innovation. Higher confidence that systems are in place to reduce risk also increases a country’s attractiveness for foreign direct investment.
